What are fibers and why are they important for our body?

Fibers: they are not only part of our body but are also found in our diet. They come from plant products and are non-digestible for us, which is why they pass from the small intestine into the large intestine after consumption. These fibers provide good bacteria, stimulate a good bowel movement and help our body break down and convert substances to energy or building blocks.

Whole grain products, vegetables and fruits mostly contain a lot of fiber and are a good addition to your diet.

Fun fact: fruits contain a lot of natural sugars. So in theory, this should cause a spike in our blood sugar levels, which has a negative effect on our consumption patterns. However, thanks to the fibers present, the sugars are absorbed slowly, which counteracts the undesirable spike in blood sugar.

For this very reason eating a whole piece of fruit is always better than just consuming its juice. There is a good chance that the fibers are left behind or lost during the juicing process. In addition, chewing promotes the absorption and processing of food.

So, do you hear someone say that fruit contains too many sugars? Don't be fooled. Fruit fits perfectly into a healthy lifestyle. For optimal absorption, choose a whole apple and a banana instead of that apple-banana smoothie and enjoy long-lasting energy! Our Fitlyzen Meal Shake was also developed keeping fibers in mind, so if you are looking for a greatly nutritious and healthy meal that is ready in 30 seconds; check out our meal shake!
